Marvel Move - Hulkville

Project Details

In my capacity as Creative Lead for 'Marvel Move', I wrote 'Hulkville' - our series featuring The Incredible Hulk, and one of the three tentpole series at launch. I worked closely with our partners at Marvel Entertainment to find a new approach to Bruce Banner that nevertheless honoured the character's rich history. I'm incredibly proud of the resulting series.

'Hulkville' places a young Bruce Banner - still in the early days of understanding his powers - in the small town of Paloma and the shadow of Los Diablos Missile Base, where his fateful accident occured. Alongside Bruce and his wife Betty, the player character ('Crash') must navigate the pressure cooker of a town reeling from the after-effects of the Gamma Bomb test: not only Bruce's condition, but a polluted water supply, bubbling paranoia, and the ever-present influence of General Thaddeus Ross.

Working on this series gave me a welcome opportunity to develop the detailed mechanics of a plot driven by willful, empowered people with competing ideologies and goals. Drawing on their relationships to continually ratchet tension over the course of the ten episodes, I aimed to tell a story that feels personal and character-centric despite the larger-than-life action that runs throughout.
